Wanderson do Carmo – Dazzling the scandinavians with his goals
Each day soccer lovers discover new Brazilian talents showing their technical quality in foreign countries. This time we focus on a youth from Baturité (Ceará) that is dazzling the Scandinavians with his killer instinct. We are talking about the attacking midfielder Francisco Wanderson do Carmo Carneiro.
Used to Baturité, quiet city of Ceará with approximately 30 thousand inhabitants, Wanderson nowadays lives in one of the most important cities of Scandinavia, being the second largest city of Sweden. With about 900 thousand inhabitants, the agitated Gothenburg offers all of the conditions for a safe life for their residents. Taking advantage of this infrastructure, the youth midfielder also enjoyed the conditions that a club that is four times Swedish champions can offer.
Borned in Ceará, it was in Piauí that the brazillian midfield caught the attention of the European soccer. After beginning his career in the youth team of Fortaleza, Wanderson was transferred for River/PI to play the Piauí State Championship of 2007. Playing as midfielder, Wanderson was one of the young promises in the competition. Besides helping the club to win the title, he also became the top scorer at the end of the Piauí State Championship bagging eight goals, two of them in the first game of the finals against Barra in Albertão. The easiness of creating plays and at the same time to score resulted in a contact from Swedish team GAIS of Sweden in that same year to take him to Europe.
With a four year contract with GAIS, the Brazilian had to adapt to the style of the European soccer. However, already starting from 2008 he began standing out in Swedish League Allsvenskan when he scored eight goals during the season becoming one of the players that helped a lot on avoiding relegation in the competition. With the good displays in 2008 the expectations from board and fans were of a promising 2009 for Wanderson who didn’t disappoint.
Netting five goals in the first ten games of the first national division Wanderson was one of the best players in the team that was expected be relegated at the end of the season and sooner the Brazilian player started to be linked with others clubs. The biggest one came in the end of May when Ajax showed some interest in having the midfielder for their next season in Holland but the negotiations haven’t developed. Without worrying about his future, Wanderson maintained the regularity during the season. In the next ten matches the Brazilian top goalscorer added four goals to his tally helping the team to have a light improvement in Allsvenskan.
Almost ending the season at Sweden, Wanderson still scored eight times in more nine games and being a candidate to become top goal scorer in the country. With a single remaining fixture, the Brazilian youngster is just one goal behind of Tobias Hysén, IFK Göteborg player who amassed a total of 18 goals in this season’s championship. In case of surpassing Hysén in the last fixture, Wanderson will become the seventh foreign player to win the top goal scorer award from Swedish League Allsvenskan in the history as well as take GAIS to the list of that award after 55 years, when Popeye Jakobsson made it in 1954.
However, not everything is happiness for Wanderson. Recently the local media announced that Wanderson is since the end of July playing without the work permission for foreigners what could result, in case it is confirmed,in the relegation of the team from Gothenburg to the Second Division in the country. Despite this problem the Brazilian midfielder’s staying at the club is on doubt mainly after a new wave of rumours have appeared, headed by powerhouse Chelsea that have already sent representatives to scout the Brazillian player during some games in this season.
